The goal of this blog is to catalog my experience in study abroad at Toyo University (東洋大学) in Tokyo Japan, as well as my entire experience in Japan.
It'll be my first trip to Japan and I am most certainly extremely excited for it. There's so many sights and wonders to see, people to meet, and foods to try that I don't necessarily know where to begin. When people think of Japan, many things come to mind for people. Some people think of Samurai warriors, others the weird Japanese videos they see online at websites like youtube. There are those that instantly think of Japanese Pop idols, and those that immediately think of anime and manga. My goal in going to Toyo University is to experience all of these things as well learn about the aspects of Japanese language and culture that foreigners do not regularly know of. Along with learning about Japanese culture, I hope to share a little bit of american culture and lifestyle with any Japanese friends I may make along the way, and encourage them to study American life at CSUMB as well, and share my experiences via this blog and through activities with future students at CSUMB who may be interested in studying abroad in Japan.
I hope that studying at Toyo University will be a great experience and I truly am excited for it. There's so many things that I want to try immediately once I arrive. Japanese cuisine (和食), is not something I've regularly eaten here at home before and quite frankly scares my family. I'm going to eat as much as possible and prove to them exactly how delicious it is! There are also a multitude of different Japanese festivals and holidays throughout the year that pique my interest and I cannot wait to see. Obon (お盆) is easily the one I am the most excited for and I look forward to participating and maybe even wearing a Yukata. I'd also like to eventually visit the other major cities of Japan such as Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, etc to see there history of Japan entirely and from the different points of the country.
In order to achieve my goals and do as much as possible it'll be important for me to secure financial stability as well as study as much Japanese as possible, and start to make travel arrangements. Going into this venture ill prepared will only bring disaster and I'd like to enjoy the trip as much as possible. Making friends from Toyo University right now will also help me in quest to study in Japan. And finally the support of my friends and family will be one of the most beneficial factors in me going.
